New Year Update! (Finally)

New Glass Rose Sculptures in 2025

The holiday season was a great success!! I made more ornaments than ever and I am eternally grateful for all the love and support I receive while I am vending all the events in the Fall and Winter - my BUSIEST seasons!

As the new year turns over, there is always a lul in business - Events come to a halt until the weather warms up, so I get to catch up on custom orders and Cremation memorials that need to get made after promoting them over the winter.

I take this slower time of the year to rebuild stock as well and prepare for the next swing of festivals - I’ll be updating the events page on my website this weekend with everything I have lined up so far this year! I’ve been working on exercising some new sculpture ideas like human figures, hollow sculpted heads/faces, horses, sailboats, and making beautiful roses like the one pictured above! Some of these things are newly listed on the website too so take a look if you get the chance!

Business has shifted a lot over the years. I used to lean into smoke ware a lot in the beginning, but that market seems to be dying out for American Artists fast. It’s like every time I go on Instagram, I see amazing artists selling their equipment and lamenting the loss of their niche market to an oversaturation of cheap Chinese/import glass. Combine that with economic pressure everyone has been feeling over the last few years, and head shops that used to spend thousands on us don’t have the clientele anymore to drive sales. This would be a crusher for me too, BUT we have to be able to adapt and pivot as the times fluctuate and change!!

I am so glad I have been more focused on sculptures, drinkware, and my Cremation Memorials the past few years. It has really driven me to wider markets and new opportunities that others flameworkers just aren’t tapping into. and it took a long time to figure out! So I am more grateful than ever to have the Art Festivals and events I go to, where I can introduce my craft to people who truly appreciate and support the art in all of its forms.

Thank you all for being here and watching me grow. Keep an eye out for the events page update on Sunday, and I’ll be back here to share my experiences as the events go by this spring.

Welcome to the Blog!

I’ve decided to start an ongoing series of posts here to give an idea of what goes on behind the scenes here at Losco Glass, some background & history on my work/career, and to reflect on events and opportunities I undergo throughout the year.

I think of it as kind of a business oriented journal, and peek into the life of an artist. After 10+ years of flameworking and trying to expand my market, I understand the old cliché of the “starving artist”. It isn’t always easy or consistent to make a living being a creative or doing what you love, but there are always doors to open and new ways to find success.

In the early years of my career, mostly all the flameworkers I knew were making a living on pipes and water pipes. It was the cool thing to make and it seemed like there were loads of smoke shops and collectors willing to support the work; however, that industry seems to have slowed down a LOT over the past few years, and I have been making a concerted effort to expand my horizons to drinkware, aquatic sculptures, and my favorite, Cremation memorial Artwork.

If you subscribe to my newsletters, I won’t be spamming your inbox relentlessly. I might have 2-3 posts a month, giving some updates and exciting news surrounding the business and sales that happen throughout the year.

I’ll leave the comment sections open as well to encourage you all to ask questions and let me know if there’s anything you’d like to hear about in future posts.

Thanks for checking me and my work out, and I hope you enjoy these extra little insights into the life of a flamworker!
